YouTube access
What Owlgorithm asks Google for, and why you may see an unverified-app screen.
If Google says it hasn’t verified this app
Google shows “Google hasn’t verified this app” because Connect YouTube asks for sensitive YouTube channel and upload access. That screen is expected until Google finishes reviewing Owlgorithm. It is not a malware warning from us.
On Google’s screen, open Advanced, then choose Go to Owlgorithm (unsafe). Approve channel and upload access. We do not request YouTube Analytics until that restricted scope is verified. Questions: support@owlgorithm.com.
What we request
- Upload videos to the connected YouTube channel —
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/youtube.upload. Owlgorithm Creator Studio and Post Now upload videos the creator already made in the app to that creator’s own YouTube channel. This scope is required for YouTube Data API videos.insert and videos.update so a connected account can publish or schedule their own content. Owlgorithm does not upload to anyone else’s channel and does not request live-broadcast or comment-moderation write access. - Read the connected channel identity and confirm uploads —
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/youtube.readonly. Owlgorithm uses channels.list to show the connected channel name and id, and videos.list to confirm that an upload belongs to that same channel. Without this scope we cannot honestly mark YouTube as Connected or verify publish success. We do not read other people’s YouTube accounts, DMs, or private videos beyond the channel the creator authorized.
How YouTube data is used
If you choose Connect YouTube, Owlgorithm uses YouTube API Services to talk to Google on your behalf. By connecting, you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service.
We collect OAuth access and refresh tokens, the Google account identifiers needed to keep that connection, and your YouTube channel id, title, and related channel metadata. After you publish, we may store the YouTube video id and privacy status returned by YouTube so we can show honest publish results. Tokens are encrypted at rest.
We use this data only to connect your channel, upload or schedule videos you submit in Creator Studio or Post Now, confirm those uploads belong to your channel, and show connection health. Channel Analytics is optional and is not requested until Google has verified Owlgorithm for that restricted scope.
Owlgorithm’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements, and to the YouTube API Services – Developer Policies. YouTube user data is used only to provide or improve user-facing YouTube features in Owlgorithm: connecting a channel, showing honest connection status, uploading or scheduling videos the creator submits, and confirming those uploads. We do not sell YouTube user data. We do not use it for advertising, credit decisions, or independent surveillance. We do not allow humans to read YouTube user data unless the creator asked us to for support, we must do so for security or legal compliance, or the data is aggregated and no longer identifiable.
You can disconnect YouTube in Platforms. You can also revoke Owlgorithm in your Google Account permissions. Disconnecting or revoking stops new YouTube API calls; we delete stored YouTube tokens for that account. Limited records needed for security, disputes, or legal compliance may remain for a short period as described in Retention & deletion.
